100% RECYCLED FABRIC - XPORE ULTRA
After a lot of research and testing of performance fabric, we have chosen to work with XPORE materials. All their fabrics are 100% PFC free, solvent free, and non toxic. Their manufacturing processes generate no air pollutants or wastewater, and the factory is designed as a "Green Ecological Restoration Park" that supports local biodiversity and uses solar energy.
The fabric we have chosen is a 3L fabric made from 100% recycled textile waste. It uses their XPORE ULTRA breathable, waterproof membrane, and a durable nylon facing with ripstop weave for a product that will survive many years of heavy use.
XPORE meets and exceeds top environmental standards in the industry:
- Bluesign certified
- HIGG Materials Sustainability Index (Xpore is considered an industry leader on this index)
- Global Recycle Standard
- OEKO-Tex 100 Standard
We are using YKK as our zip supplier, regarded as the best in the market. These aren’t recycled materials, but we didn’t want to get anything less than the best for zips, because it sucks when they break.
HANDMADE IN NEPAL
We are working with a family run alpine apparel company in Kathmandu, Nepal to make our jackets. The owners spent their lives climbing in the Himalayas as mountain guides, so they understand the extreme weather we want our jackets to function in. They started their own apparel line in 2019 to meet their needs in the mountains, and are experts at producing high quality garments made to take on the harshest conditions in the world.
Every step of the process is hand done, from punching in eyelets, to pressing all the seam tape. The team of 9 seamstresses are confirmed to be on fair wages in comfortable working conditions in the heart of Kathmandu. We worked closely with them to develop the jacket, and even managed to fit in a few virtual beers between business calls.
We feel very lucky to be working with another small business, and have a tight relationship with our manufacturer. It may not be NZ made, but we are happy to be working with good people and supporting a beautiful country that doesnt have a big export industry.

PRODUCT CARE & BOOSTING WATER REPELLENCY
For daily care, brush lightly with a soft brush. To prolong the product’s performance, a thorough wash is recommended only before storage, or after a really grubby mission. If your jacket just needs a water repellency boost, skip to step 5.
WASHING
1. Zip up all zips, fasten velcro, un-synch elastic pulls
2. Machine wash delicate on low temperature, or hand wash below 30°C. Use a small amount of liquid detergent (ideally an eco-friendly tech wash made for waterproof fabric). DO NOT use powder detergent, fabric softeners, cold cleaning agents, bleach, or dry clean.
3. Rinse twice and minimize spinning.
4. Line dry in the shade. Do not wring it out.
BOOSTING WATER REPELLENCY
5. To re-activate the DWR, tumble dry the jacket on a warm setting (below 40°C) for 15-20min. If a dryer isn't available, you can iron the jacket on a gentle setting with no steam (below 100°C), and protect it with a towel or cloth. You can repeat this step any time your jacket needs a water repellency boost.
6. If water no longer beads off after step 5.0, you can re-apply a DWR product, either as spray on or wash in. Choose an eco friendly option that's PFC free (it’ll say on the package), and follow the instructions. Remember to do step 5.0 to activate it.
